How a Day at Currumbin Works

From the gate at 9 am to the last show.

  1. Arrive at Opening

The sanctuary opens 9 am to 4 pm every day except Anzac Day and Christmas Day, with last entry at 3.30 pm. Arriving at opening leaves time for every show.

  2. Show Your Ticket and ID

Family tickets cover two adults aged 14 and over and two children aged 3 to 13, and ID is checked at the gate.

  3. Plan Around the Shows

The bird show and the other daily shows run at set times and are included in entry; check the day's timetable when you arrive.

  4. Add the Ropes or the Night Walk

The TreeTop Challenge ropes course sits inside the sanctuary grounds; Astra Lumina opens after dark on its own ticket.

What a day at Currumbin covers

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary sits at the southern end of the Gold Coast, near Currumbin Beach. The day ticket includes the Lost Valley, the Extinction Trail and the Outback Springs precinct, all the daily shows, among them the Wild Skies free-flight bird show, and rides on the miniature train. The wildlife hospital on site treats injured native animals, and visitors can see its work. You can feed a kangaroo and join the wild lorikeet feed; koala photos are sold on top of entry.

You may bring your own food to the picnic grounds. The sanctuary is wheelchair accessible, but some paths are not suitable for wheelchairs, prams or anyone with limited mobility.

The ropes course has a reach rule, not an age rule. To climb, you must reach 165 cm to your fingertips with both arms stretched above your head and both feet flat on the ground. Children under 12 need an adult on a climbing ticket with them, enclosed shoes are required, and the course is not for anyone afraid of heights or pregnant. It takes about 2.5 to 3.5 hours to finish the seven circuits, from the easy green course to the Black Diamond.

Astra Lumina is a separate night ticket and includes no animal encounters. It is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Practical: getting there and other wildlife

The sanctuary is at the southern end of the coast, so pair it with a morning at Currumbin’s beaches or a surf lesson at Kirra. For wild kangaroos and koalas in the hinterland, a Tamborine Mountain coach tour is on the day trips page; for koalas after dark with glow worms, see the glow worm tours.

"A wonderful experience for the whole family! 🐨❤️ The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is truly beautiful. We really enjoyed the visit and especially the animals. The kids loved it! 🦘🐨 There is even a small train that takes you around the park, which is very convenient with children and means less walking. 🚂 The small water play areas are also great for taking a little break and cooling the kids off. 💦😊 A really great activity for families.
